Alex - Marketing & PR
Having recently graduated from The University of Manchester with a 1st class degree in Chemistry, Alex loves analytics.
If he’s not calculating the most efficient way to eat his favourite food (Enchiladas) without getting fat, he’s running the marketing and PR side of Piccana Digital. He also controls our work events so we have a lot of “Bring Mexican food to work” days.
In his spare time Alex is an avid computer gamer but he also likes to write fictional stories, enjoys long walks on the beach and creating other cliché situations.

FAQs
Do I need a blog?
The short answer is: Yes. The long answer is: Definitely Yes! – With the advent of ad-block, throwing an advertising banner at the side of the screen and hoping people click on it won’t yield the results it once did. By creating regular and riveting content people will visit your website much more regularly, or be more inclined to share it with their friends. Social Media is a fantastic place to get your blog posts shared. If you want to know how you can improve your organic ranking check out our SEO page.
Does paid advertising work?
Yes. Pay per click advertising on search engines is a fantastic way to promote your company and to increase traffic. Paying for a banner for people to click on is far less effective thanks to programs such as ad-block. Of course this method of advertising still works (TV provides a great return on investment), but if you don’t have millions to spend you could get far more for your money in pay per click advertising. If you are interested in PPC click here.
I don’t understand much about technology, how can you help me?
We have spent our entire lives growing up around computers, so you don’t need to know anything and you can leave it all to us. We’ll happily explain everything to you without any of the jargon used in our industry, ensuring that you understand every action we take and why we took it.
But social media doesn’t convert!
Social media is not about sales, but more about PR and brand awareness. You won’t make much from a social media account in terms of monetary value, but you will build a social following and brand awareness which can often be more valuable. It also allows to directly and quickly converse with people who contact you, or resolve matters quickly before they spiral out of control.
Why would I need online reputation management?
Because your reputation is what people judge you on. A bad review will turn away over two thirds of prospective clients/customers so it’s important to ensure that you handle everything with integrity and professionalism. Most people are inclined to leave a bad review as a way of venting, but very few people will post on the internet to say your service was good. Part of this service is to give people a much needed push in the direction of leaving positive feedback, and to deal with the negative feedback turning that frown upside down. Head over the ORM page to see what we can do for you.
Is the internet really that powerful for advertising? What about print?
A single web advert can reach anyone anywhere in the world. There are many advantages that online marketing has over print, including a much more targeted audience, and it’s often cheaper to advertise online. I’m not saying you shouldn’t ever use print advertising, but you should seriously consider the online alternative because it can often be much more rewarding for a much lower cost.
If you only work 20 hour work weeks, why should I pick you over someone who works 40? Won’t they get more done?
Since we bill monthly, let’s work on monthly hours. We work 80 hours a month, where as some of our competitor’s work 160. You won’t get 160 hours put into your business because they have other clients too, so we see no reason why we can’t do the same amount of work for you with 80 hours of our time. It just simply means we have a better staff to client ratio, providing more jobs, more free time for our employees and a much better service to you.
So what is the catch with your 20 hour work week? Do you pay part time?
There is no catch – we offer competitive, full time salaries for part-time hours. The only people getting paid less are the management, and we are happy to accept that. Life isn’t all about money, what is the point in receiving millions of pounds a year in a salary if you are always at work? Unfortunately we are condensing ‘40’ hours of work into 20 meaning we work much more efficiently here, so it may not be for everyone. If you are interested in finding out more about our company ethics then you can head over to our careers page.
Why do you feel business is not in the 21st century already?
Our generation is a strange one in which we now have youth in work who have grown up around technology, while we have people close to retirement who were born before the invention of the internet. There are businesses that won’t fully use the power of computers, won’t automate simple tasks and some won’t even have mobile phones. In 1952 the average work week was 42 hours, in 2012 it was 37. Thanks to functions in Excel such as SUM you no longer need to waste your time with a calculator and piece of paper, so why has the work week not shrunk more dramatically? Our company was started in the 21st century, so we want to live like it’s the 21st century.
