When it comes to designing your website, it can be a tedious task. In a world where everyone is a critic it’s important to ensure that your website looks good but conveys all the important information. It’s got to also work across all devices (responsive). Here are some of our favourite tools for web designers that we can’t recommend highly enough. They are all simple to use but will definitely help you during the design process of your website. If you don’t think web design matters then here’s 3 reasons proving you wrong.
Five Amazing Tools for Web Designers
Coolors™
Website: http://coolors.co/
Price: Free
This is the best tool for designing the colour scheme for your website. There are plenty of tools for web designers out there that show colour wheels but this is different. Coolors will randomly generate you 5 colours every time you press space. Much like a slot machine you can then lock the colours you like to generate some pretty cool patterns. It also works if you already know the colour you want to use as you can type in the hex code. Once you’ve generated your colour scheme you can simply export it, save it, or just write the hex codes down.
Foundation
Website: http://foundation.zurb.com/
Price: Free
There are lots of tools for web designers that help you create a website but Foundation claims to be ‘The most advanced responsive front-end framework in the world’ and it’s hard to disagree. With browser support across all major browsers and lots of documentation available this is one of the best frameworks you can use. If you want to compare bootstrap to foundation then you can read this blog post here. We personally think the only major difference is the popularity. Since Bootstrap is more popular it has more tutorials available online.
Trello
Website: https://trello.com/
Price: Free
Trello shouldn’t technically be in a list of tools for web designers because it’s for everyone, but it’s so damn useful! When you build a website there is so much to do. You could write it down on a notepad to remind yourself, or you could just use Trello. It’s an easy to use project planning tool which will allow you to organize anything you want. You can even share your Trello boards to create teams, or let your client know how you are getting on. There is more than enough documentation and the tutorial is easy to follow. Trello is a great tool to improve productivity, keep track of your tasks, and cut down on office paperwork.
Screen Fly

There are so many reasons that your website needs to be responsive, but how can you check? Unless you own multiple devices covering all possible screen sizes it can be difficult to tell. That’s where this great tool comes in. This is one of our favourite tools for web design because it’s so simple to use, yet it’s so powerful. All you do is simply type your domain into the box and select the device you want to view your website from. The preview lets you know what you need to fix in order to create a fully responsive website. While there are other tools for web designers which do this job we feel that screen fly is the easiest the use with the best results.
Macaw

Code looks dull. It’s difficult to envision how your website looks without a constant preview and you can easily get a brain ache looking at code all day. This is where Macaw comes in. This is a great tool for Web Designers because it allows you to visually construct your website similar to other image design software. It’s responsive, compiles the code, easy to use and great fun to play around with. It even has a free trial so that you can try before you buy.
