It’s summer. That means it’s hot. The last place you want to be during this heat is a stuffy office. It doesn’t have to be all bad news though. The best thing about summer is that you can buy ice cream, lots of it. Everyone in the office will have a favourite flavour but it’s one of the most debated topics. Are you a chocolate ice cream fan or do you prefer vanilla? As technology has moved on the traditional flavours of ice cream have been pushed aside by exciting new flavours. It’s not uncommon to get rainbow ice cream (what does a rainbow even taste of?). With so many flavours to choose from it’s difficult to decide on which ice creams you want, so here’s our list of ice creams for summer.
10. Mint Chocolate Chip
It wouldn’t be a list of ice creams for summer without something to cool you down. Mint fools your sensory receptors into being cooled down. This makes mint one of the most refreshing flavours of ice cream to have on a hot day. While mint alone is good enough, some smarty pants had the great idea of adding chocolate chips. This great invention quickly caught on and is now one of the most popular flavours of ice cream in the world
.
9. Chocolate
It wouldn’t be a list of ice creams for summer without the original three. Chocolate ice cream can be dated back to Italy in 1692 and it’s been a staple ever since. Chocolate is actually the second most popular flavour of ice cream and almost half of all chocolate ice cream that is consumed is consumed within the United States of America. If it’s so hot that you have no energy to work then don’t worry! Chocolate ice cream won’t only cool you down, but it will also provide you with 200 calories giving you the energy to work once more. We recommend that you show your boss this fact and claim you can’t work without chocolate ice cream.
8. Cookies ‘n cream
One of the best ice creams for summer is cookies ‘n cream. Nothing beats that heat in the office like creamy rich ice cream filled with broken cookies. The beautiful mixture of textures, with the fantastic flavour, makes this one of our favourites. Cookies and cream is a relatively new ice cream which can only be dated back to the 1980s, but by 1983 it was one of the best-selling ice cream flavours of all time. If you aren’t a fan of creamy vanilla flavoured ice cream you can always replace it with chocolate. There are many variations of this great flavour including mint or even strawberry but, much like star wars, the original is always the best.
7. Vanilla
It doesn’t matter if it’s a posh French vanilla or any old vanilla. It doesn’t make a difference if the cream is from a Jersey cow or from down the road. This ice cream flavour is the top dog. Vanilla is actually the most popular flavour of ice cream in the world. No matter how many new flavours pop up no one can unseat this top dog. Maybe it’s because it’s difficult to not like the taste or maybe it’s because it can be traced to over 1000 years ago. Whatever the reason, this is one of the best ice creams for summer in a hot office. It’s perfect for you to buy for all your staff because statistically you’ve got the best chance of making the most employees happy.
6. Strawberry
It seems logical to complete the original three flavours. No matter the ice cream shop, no matter how big or how small, it’s always going to sell chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Despite not being as popular as the other two this is still a fantastic flavour which cannot be forgotten about. If you return home from work and your mean boss hasn’t treated you to an ice cream why not invite some friends over? By using strawberry ice cream and lemons you can make these cute little desserts guaranteed to impress all your friends.
5. Praline Pecan
Some people actually haven’t heard of this flavour of ice cream – but it’s one of the most popular flavours in the USA. Take a combination of rich praline sauce swirled into a creamy vanilla ice cream sprinkled with praline-coated pecans and you’ve got a little bit of heaven. Why is this one of the best ice creams for summer? Because you would be nutty to think otherwise. Oh and because it tastes really good. If you don’t like nuts then you can always try one of our other recommended flavours.
4. Vanilla Fudge
Oh look it’s our old friend vanilla again. This time it’s brought back up in the shape of fudge. One of the best things about this flavour of ice cream is that you can easily make it yourself at home. All you need is some vanilla ice cream, some fudge and some hot fudge sauce. Put them all together and mix it about and you’ve just made yourself one of the most popular ice cream flavours around. The good thing about this ice cream is that it’s fantastic for cooling you down on that hot summer day in the office. The bad thing about this ice cream is that you have to share it with your co-workers.
3. Rocky Road Ice Cream
What’s better than rocky road? Rocky road ice cream of course! This is a chocolate flavoured ice cream which contains nuts and marshmallows. It was created in 1929 to give folks something to smile about during the Wall Street crash. Considering that this ice cream was designed to make people smile during the great depression I think it’s perfect for those long summer days in the hot office. There are many variations of this ice cream, including one with our old favourite vanilla, but they all have similar ingredients. It’s one of the best ice creams for summer in our opinion because it feels like summer. It’s got nuts, marshmallows and chocolate ice cream – What more could you ask for?
2. Neapolitan
Not to be confused with Napoleon this ice cream is made up of blocks of the traditional big three. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. It is named after the city it was founded in, Naples, and was taken to the United States by immigrants in the 1870s. One group of people who particularly like this flavour of ice cream are mothers of indecisive children. Since some staff members can often be likened to indecisive children this ice cream is fantastic for the office ice cream party. All you need to do is convince your boss that he should buy some of this ice cream for you all to cool down. Perhaps you could insist he gets only the best Neapolitan ice cream available? Just a short trip to Naples in Italy should suffice.
1. Chilli Ice Cream
No don’t worry, I haven’t gone mad (I hope). It’s often suggested that drinking a hot drink during the heat can cool you down. This is because you trick your receptors into thinking it’s hotter than it is. This in turn causes your brain to over react and cool you down. How does the brain cool us down? Sweating. Now the office is hardly a place you want to sweat, but it unfortunately happens. What’s the best way to cool everyone down in a hot sweaty office? Eat Chilli Ice Cream! Not many ice cream shops actually sell this flavour of ice cream so you might have to make it yourself. You should be able to convince your boss to allow you to do this by claiming it’s some kind of team building exercise.
